We are delighted that you have decided to embark on this adventure, start from Gargellen and have two days of fun on the trail of the smugglers!

Centuries ago, lively trade developed between the Montafon and Prättigau. The state border made this exchange illegal and important goods had to be smuggled between the two valleys. Today, the path is free and offers you unique nature experiences and exciting stories.

The two-day mountain hike around the Madrisa takes you on a journey into the past and leads you into a world full of smugglers' stories and mule tracks. Embark on a fascinating tour on which you cross the border to Switzerland twice and experience magnificent panoramic views, diverse geology and a rich plant world on the partly historic paths between Austria and Switzerland.

The route starts from the mountain station of the Gargellner Bergbahnen cable car over the Gafierjoch to Madrisa-Land above Klosters. After an overnight stay in the charming Swiss village, you return to Gargellen the next day via the Schlappinerjoch.
