Our cross-country skiing tips in the Montafon

Cross-country skiing with consideration and respect

Only cross-country skiers may use the trail

  • The groomed trails are intended exclusively for cross-country skiers.
  • Pedestrians and dogs are not permittedon the trails.
  • For walks, there are specially groomed winter hiking trails are available for walks. Thank you for your understanding!

Our nature is a precious commodity

This also applies on the cross-country ski trail:

Take your garbage back with you and make sure that nothing falls out of your jacket pocket - not even a handkerchief.

Because despite the prepared trail, you are in the middle of nature. Any garbage that is left lying around is shredded into tiny pieces by the snow groomer. These have to be laboriously removed later or end up in the meadows in spring - with unpleasant consequences for the environment.

Preparation and status report of the cross-country ski trails

Depending on the area, the cross-country ski trails are groomed by the responsible employees of the Montafon municipalities or the respective mountain railroad (Silvretta-Bielerhöhe and Kristberg) depending on the weather and snow conditions. A snow cover of at least 30 cm is required for machine grooming of a cross-country ski trail (depending on the area, sometimes at least 50 cm).

Even if a closed, white blanket of snow or even larger amounts of fresh snow could give the impression of this, grooming below the minimum snow depth is not possible. Failure to do so will lead to the ground being dug up like a field and thus to considerable damage to the meadows used for agricultural purposes in summer.

Which trails are currently open is managed by the staff responsible for the respective area.
