Nature-friendly mountain sports in summer

While the "Nature-friendly mountain sports in the Montafon" initiative originated in winter, the focus has now been expanded to include all mountain sports.

The current focus with regard to the summer season is on (e-)mountain biking. "Here, too, we will increasingly focus on steering measures, but only in areas where they are necessary and sensible. The aim is not to create new trails, but to use existing ones sensibly and protect sensitive areas." (Manuel Bitschnau)

Nature-friendly mountain biking

Steering measures

For nature-friendly (e-)mountain biking in the Montafon.

(E-)mountain biking in the unique mountain world of the Montafon is a special experience. To ensure that this experience remains sustainable and nature-friendly, there is a well thought-out management concept. Official signage, targeted awareness-raising measures and practical solutions such as the Flow Gate ensure that everyone - recreational sports enthusiasts, wildlife and farm animals as well as farmers - feel equally at ease.

Basis: Official mountain bike signage

The official signposting of the province of Vorarlberg forms the basis for the mountain bike routes in the Montafon. It includes clear destination signs and red arrows pointing the way. This means you are always on the marked routes - an important contribution to harmonious coexistence on the trails.

Starting point boards: orientation at a glance

Starting point boards have been erected at individual central starting points. They show the official routes in the area, including recommended tour suggestions that are directly linked to Outdooractive. You will also find the mountain bike code of conduct here, which points to respectful cooperation, as well as information on the mountain bike infrastructure in the region.

Awareness boards: Mindful on the trail

There are also smaller awareness boards at particularly busy sections along the routes. They contain almost the same core information as the starting point boards, but are more compact and strategically placed at points where a particularly large number of mountain bikers pass by.

Flow Gate: Barrier-free and safe through pasture fences

Another innovative element is the Flow Gate - a special fence passage that allows you to ride through on your mountain bike without having to dismount. The gate closes automatically so that no pasture fences are left open and agricultural use is not impaired. For hikers, there is a handle with which the gate can be opened without touching the electric pasture fencing.

Bike & Hike parking spaces

From the saddle to the hiking trail

Some mountain bike trails end at points from which the mountain world can be explored on foot. This is exactly where Bike & Hike parking spaces have been created. The wooden mountain bike stands offer a safe place to park your bike, while an information board suggests hikes from this location. So you can move seamlessly from one activity to the next.

Mountain bike bans

Biking in the rear Silbertal valley is prohibited during the specified period. Regular checks are carried out during this time.

Mountain Bike Code Vorarlberg

We ride on marked trails and do not take shortcuts.

We take care of animals and plants, avoid the twilight hours and leave no waste behind.

We show consideration for the grazing cattle and close fence passages.

We behave respectfully and adjust our speed.

We plan our tour in advance according to our ability and inform ourselves about closures.

We check your mountain bike and equipment before the start.

Flying drones in the Montafon

Drones are popular in the leisure sector - even in the mountains. But there are limits to the fun of flying: They can frighten wild animals, endanger grazing animals and disturb the nature experience of others. We therefore ask you to refrain from flying drones, especially in the sensitive Alpine region.
