Important tips that you will hopefully never need

Although three out of four alpine emergency calls are already reported by cell phone, according to a study by mobilkom austria, only a few people know about the correct use of cell phones in the event of an accident. For this reason, we are providing you with all the emergency numbers here.

The three emergency numbers: 144, 140 & 112 - The numbers for alpine emergencies.

In Vorarlberg, 144 is the number for alpine emergencies; throughout Austria, it is the number 140, which also works in Vorarlberg. If the alpine emergency call is triggered, the operations center sends the appropriate mountain rescue team after assessing the situation. No costs are incurred when using the emergency call, which is why it is also possible on prepaid cell phones without credit.

Euro emergency call: 112

The Euro emergency number 112 is actually valid throughout Europe. If it is dialed, whether in Germany or in other European countries, the caller is routed to the nearest emergency call center. In Austria, this is the gendarmerie or police emergency call center. The Euro emergency call can be made from all networks.

It also works if you have no reception from your own network operator in an emergency. To do this, switch off the cell phone and enter "112" instead of the PIN code when you switch it back on. The cell phone then automatically searches for the strongest operator network and makes the emergency call.

Other advantages of the Euro emergency number "112" that distinguish it from all other numbers: it can be used free of charge in all European countries and even without a SIM card. It is also considered an "SOS call" and is therefore prioritized in the radio network.
